What to Look for in a Video Production Partner

A practical guide to the things that matter behind the scenes, from planning and purpose to helping your team feel comfortable on camera.

A strong video can catch your eye. But when you’re choosing a production partner, the way they work behind the scenes matters just as much as what appears on screen.

How will they help you clarify the brief? Who will manage the details before filming? And will they make the people in your business feel comfortable on camera?

In the video above, I share five practical things to look for when choosing a video production partner, based on what we’ve learned working with businesses at Rite Visuals.

What should you look for?

A good production partner should:

  1. Start with the purpose.

They should ask who the video is for, what you want it to achieve, what action viewers should take and where it will be used.

  2. Take charge of the preparation.

A clear plan for the schedule, interviews and key shots helps everyone know what to expect on the shoot day.

  3. Think beyond one video.

Planning a main video alongside shorter versions for social media, presentations or sales conversations can help you get more use from the production.

  4. Adapt when plans change.

Experience on set matters when a room is too noisy, a speaker cancels or another detail changes at the last minute.

  5. Help people feel comfortable.

The best interviews often come from giving people time to settle in and guiding them through the process.

The video goes into each of these in more detail, including what they can look like on a real shoot.
