Behind the Scenes: Creating Powerful Franchise Content for F45 in Melbourne and Christchurch
When it comes to fitness content creation, everyone knows the energy and community spirit that F45 Training brings to the table. We were recently hired by F45 as their videographer team to produce a series of testimonial videos featuring two of their athletes - who are also franchise owners.
The goal? To create compelling content that inspires potential franchisees to take the leap and join the F45 family.
A Dual-City, Dual-Style Shoot
This production took our video team across two countries - first to Melbourne, Australia, and then to Christchurch, New Zealand - with each location bringing its own unique vibe and storytelling style.
Melbourne: Interview-Style Storytelling
In Melbourne, we took a more structured, interview-based approach. After capturing two high-energy classes at 6am and 7am, we returned later in the day to film the interviews once the gym had cleared out. This allowed us to create clean, focused visuals while keeping the gym’s authentic environment as a backdrop.
Alice and her brother Jack shared personal insights into the journey of owning an F45 studio - the learnings, the growth, the community, and the incredible support from the wider F45 network.
Christchurch: Podcast-Style
In Christchurch, we switched it up. The content leaned into a more relaxed, podcast-style format, allowing Jordi and Brooke to speak candidly about their experience. Again, we started early - filming two classes at 5am (which was 3am our time) and 6am - before returning to capture the long-form conversation in a quiet, empty gym.
This format gave us a more intimate, authentic feel, which aligns perfectly with the F45 brand’s focus on community, connection, and transformation.
Travelling
We’re no strangers to travelling for shoots but most of our international trips have been for events which only require two cameras. This time was different. A podcast-style shoot meant three cameras and a lot more lighting gear.
Naturally, as soon as we locked it in, Rachel jumped at the chance to stock up on new travel gear (any excuse, right?). But after doing some more research and asking the people of instagram - we quickly realised that travelling with a large amount of equipment was way more complicated than we expected.
We needed a government-issued document called a Carnet, which required us to list every single piece of gear, along with serial numbers and their values. That meant declaring everything at customs each time we entered or left a country.
To make things easier, we decided to hire lighting gear once we arrived in New Zealand and honestly, it was such a smooth process that we’ll definitely be doing that again in the future.
Purpose-Driven Fitness Content
These videos weren’t just about showcasing workouts - they were designed with a clear marketing strategy in mind. By spotlighting real franchise owners and their day-to-day lives, we helped F45 produce recruitment-focused content that’s relatable, engaging, and packed with value.
From lighting and audio to pacing and tone, every part of the production was crafted to reflect the energy and professionalism that defines the F45 brand.
Why It Works
This shoot is a great example of how testimonial videos can serve multiple purposes: bringing in new business, reinforcing brand identity, building trust with your audience and creating shareable content for social media and web.
Whether it’s a polished interview or a podcast-style deep dive, the key is to let the real stories shine through.
